Biography
Musician
Janette is a classical guitarist with The New York City Guitar Orchestra, which was established in 2010 by the New York City Classical Guitar Society. Directed by Jason Sagebiel , the orchestra is committed to providing a valuable ensemble experience for guitarists of diverse backgrounds, while maintaining musical excellence and a commitment to fostering the creation of new music. Through its new music project, made possible by the generous support of The Augustine Foundation, the orchestra has commissioned 18 new works from diverse composers such as members of the Philip Glass Ensemble, The Metropolitan Opera, Nine Inch Nails, the B-52’s, and many more. Currently, the group is recording this new music for release.
Beginning with the 2015-2016 Season, Janette has performed with The New York City Guitar Orchestra at DiMenna Center for Classical Music, Advent Lutheran Church, The Secret Theatre, and Carnegie Hall in New York City. During the 2017-2018 Season she participated in two studio recordings with the NYCGO at Oktaven Audio.
As 2019 marks the celebration of the 100th birthday of classical guitar pedagogue Aaron Shearer, in June the Aaron Shearer Foundation presented the Carnegie Hall debut of the U.S. Guitar Orchestra directed by Dr. Kami Rowan with special guest William Kanengiser and an appearance by the New York City Guitar Orchestra. The program included one New York and three world premieres of new works by Sergio Assad, Kevin Callahan, Brian Head, and Bryan Johanson. At this gala, Janette made her Carnegie Hall debut with the NYCGO performing Gyan Riley’s Landloper, commissioned by the NYCCGS in 2016.
In addition to her classical guitar work, Janette has studied flamenco dance with Omayra Amaya in her NYC Flamenco Dance Workshops at Fazil’s Studio, a legendary dance rehearsal space in New York. Earlier in her career she was mentored by the late, Tony Acosta, owner of Luthier Music Corporation. She studied classical guitar with Federico Diaz while receiving instruction from Sylvain Coudret, guitarist with the Swedish melodic death-metal band, Soilwork. She is currently studying guitar with Ron Kachnic, guitarist with the technical death-metal band, Malignancy.
